About the Library Museum Garden
Our garden is cared for by an all volunteer group of supporters and Library Museum users.
Located on the South side of the Library Museum building, the small size plot of land was not scheduled to be completed with the building project. The funding for the garden had been withdrawn by City officials during the early phases of the project to put dollars to the structure. The Building Committee (SCLMBC) was determined to find a way to fund the garden if all funds were in place to complete the building phases of the structure. The final fundraising efforts from the granite memorial tiles and the dinner cruise and auction with guest Alaskan author Dana Stabenow brought together the funding needed to do the hardscape and the landscape. Design was by local volunteer CJ Rea. Hardscape was put in by Dutchboy, plants were from Alaska Hardy both from Homer, Alaska. Tender loving care of the plants during planting and the first year was given by numerous volunteers with Kate Turnbull as their lead person.
The art sculpture, commissioned by the SCLMBC, was a cooperative project to blend wood and glass by local artists Shiela Morrow and Sandy Stole.
Their story can be found here.
The garden is still being lovingly cared for by volunteers we call the Garden Fairies!
The most beautiful public garden in Seward, Alaska!
Thank you Volunteers!
